A Voice From the Past

In the excerpt provided below, a former student recalls the one-room school he attended in the early 1930s. The school, which is depicted in the accompanying photographs, has long since fallen prey to the ravages of time. In an effort to highlight the changes that have occurred in the past seventy-five years, I chose to depict the school as I saw it on a cold, rainy day in April. As I stood and listened to him describe his experiences as a young child attending school within these walls, I could not help but sense the presence of long forgotten ghosts.
